Just to be clear, Coast to coast was sold to a corporation who proceeded to destroy it and place mumblegums in charge. Then Bell started on XM and abandoned it. Then he started "Midnight in the desert" that was given to Heather and Keith. Heather quit, Keith sold the shed (or network) to a brilliant group of investors. Heather started and quit a dozen times more on her network. And now the forum that chronicled it all for a decade is gone and has been magically transformed into a facebook group.
Amazing to see entropy in action.

I happened to stumble upon a link to this site, and in fact this very thread, the other day on an un-AzzGab related intar-tube search.
I am a little hurt that no-one thought to shoot me an e-mail about this new location.

The campaign e-mail, believe it or not: is actually functional. I check it daily to delete all the spam messages from Epoch times, Twitter and etc.
Apparently, my telepatehic helmet is on the fritz or something, as I have been sending out e(sp)-mails to various folks that keep getting returned as "undeliverable, address unknown."
I will have to find some thyme to fix that shit...

I love having the old BellGab members around, and we needed a place to congregate. But I didn't want to reach out to people who may have wanted to just throw in the towel, and not take a chance on a site so closely associated with my name.
Plus, there's that creative project we were hoping to get off the ground, and I flopped. So I felt ashamed. I shoulda just e-mailed you.

Oh yes he would know all about those things, being from San Francisco. I get invites for them all the time. It surprises me that MV would have chosen that way, as videoconferenced circlejerk software Facebook is really sub-par and he should have done his research. The best ones draw from vast pools of talent and have preprogrammed filters like "Hide Fatties" or "Natural Casings" or "Bouncyballs" as well as customizable views for different tastes, all of which are invisible to the participants of course, so everyone feels he is participating and no one is left out, as far as he knows. If you spend enough time in the settings you can play the thing like an organ.

Page 3 was pretty much a wash, although I wondered WTAF the "Bellgab - goran-karan.info" entry was all about, which sounded intar-tube Silk Roadish and may have led to fapable DP pics/videos (not my thing, possibility of dinks touching makes it possible gay porn). That link was left un-clicked but noted as somewhat remarkable.

By this point I was just fascinated by the diverse and varied search results I was getting and the rabbit hole appeared to have no end! The shallow puddle of despair suddenly dries up: leaving me dry, crusty and somewhat exhausted... something like the aftermath of a SeekRut TurboMode circle-jerk. What on earth was wrong with the soup??? It sounds like just the thing to raft one of those big fat steamed dumplings in you get at Oktoberfest. This is the time of year my grandma would always make rhubarb soup with last year’s out of the freezer, saying it tasted like spring. Just rhubarb chopped and stewed with sugar and cinnamon, served hot with a big float of whipped cream. God I miss her so much!

I used to get rhubarb every year until the bastard foxes dug it up.
What did you do with it? People in this country don’t remember things like fruit soups and compotes or how good fresh sour things like rhubarb tasted after all winter when all you had was maybe an orange at Christmas, with the peel carefully preserved, but that is how my mom grew up. Sviskesuppe (stewed prunes) was a rare treat.

The shallow puddle of despair suddenly dries up: leaving me dry, crusty and somewhat exhausted... something like the aftermath of a SeekRut TurboMode circle-jerk. What did you do with it? People in this country don’t remember things like fruit soups and compotes or how good fresh sour things like rhubarb tasted after all winter when all you had was maybe an orange at Christmas, with the peel carefully preserved, but that is how my mom grew up. Sviskesuppe (stewed prunes) was a rare treat.

All right, I am sorry. I take the mask off. I think your wheelie is awesome and your helmet is rad and I like you a lot. You are right, I have a legitimate claim to my persona. There are certain deeply contradictory elements to it -- the Bible stuff, the desperately unfashionable music, the dusty books mixed with obsessive trendiness and domestic baking geekery -- that aren't really possible to fake or explain by other means, and Shreddie if his being honest will back me up on this.
That said, I think when I am being ridiculous I fully intend to be that way, and the thing you can't hear is me laughing my ass off. I tend to think "troll" is too strong a word for anything I do; all I do is tease. Thankfully there is no need to be a troll when you are already supremely absurd.

Portland's motto is "keep Portland weird?") I don't mind being weird (you cannot think you are normal rolling around the block on a unicycle wearing a cowboy hat and dragging a compost bin on wheels to the front yard @ 15Mph.) I had to google stumptown. Usually I roll along on the forum- but I will be honest. My one big fear is being the next "Erinn F" of a forum.
I had believed most of what you post (as you said, it is hard to fake lots of it.) It was when WAN posted what was probably a throw away comment on not believing something that I suddenly realized that in my real life, I'm kind of a social moron... And for some reason, I had started failing to question motives here. And suddenly I started wondering if I'm aiming to be Erinn. It's not that I have to believe what you post- but I realized that I had lost my "arms length" defense.
Everybody on BG had at least a little troll in them (or they would not last.) I don't exclude myself. I don't even mind being trolled- I was worried that I had just lost my ability to discern... And that would lead to... Well... Erinn F land.
I think I recently had a fairly major event that has me questioning a lot of my assumptions about myself that managed to shake me up a little. Where I have always been quite confident knowing what I am, and what I am not, something got shattered and I'm starting to see mirages as I search for some grounding.

Actually, that was not it. I don't consider that man to have been "gay." He was, instead, human excrement. There is a difference.
I have no idea why I am typing this now. Maybe it is because I find myself in the same general spot in life where some of my assumptions about myself are turning out to be untrue. So, why the hell not?
I know I had mentioned having to discontinue care of my father after his accident. It was something I was positive I would never do. I could not understand how people would could make such a decision. And then it was probably 50 days of coma before I told the doctors to do it. If fucked me up for awhile. There really is not much difference between that decision and killing him. The result is the same. (I'm better now. I don't care. I did what I had to do and dealt with the consequences- and I would not change a damn thing.)
Anyhow, probably within 6 months of that, I was working with a great guy. An ex-gymnast who was kind, and smart, and listened. And he moved to Saskatchewan. I am 90% sure he was gay. If I had not bought a house in this city, I probably would have uprooted myself. I was actually spinning out of control for awhile. (Want to know something funny? That was when I my mother unintentionally confirmed the neighbour.. I told her not to worry- nothing happened. She blamed herself for not knowing that he moved in after getting out of prison for a couple of weeks. And then she watched carefully after she knew. I could not let her blame herself- so I assured her that nothing happened. But things fell into place in my mind.)
Anyhow, I was dancing on the edge. And IF I was correct that Paul was gay, and IF he stayed in my city, I can honestly say that we may have had some fucked up relationship. I mean, why not? Everything else was crashing down.
And I do not believe that I have told another soul of Paul until now. But it was a narrow escape. Damn him being kind to me while I had been kicked and was down. Predator. ;)

Who would care what I had for lunch? It's none of their business" were his responses. I still laugh when I think about it.

Yes, I avoid Facebook on principle. The number of outwardly sane people who feel compelled to take pictures of their meals and share them with total strangers is mind-boggling. Unfortunately, I have banned myself from FakeBook as of several years ago: when they first started their shenannigans in the censorship arena, or it smelled like they were beginning to do such things, I want to say circa 2015? So I won't be popping in just to say hi to Roz... FakeBook is as dead to me now just like McDonald's, Coca-cola and a few other choice companies are for various reasons. Yep, I Cancelled them before they could Cancel me a long thyme ago...
I did not close my FakeBook account, however, I decided that Mark $uckerberg wasn't going to have access to any of the posts, comments, pictures, random likes of corporations/etc I had accumulated there over the years. So I unliked everything I could (a very few I was unable to), deleted every comment I had made in various folks' "threads" (that caused a small uproar amongst a few FakeBook zombies), deleted all pictures of myself (Fuck you facial recognition), erased everything from my time-line, &c. Basically tried to empty EVERYTHING out from my account so that there would be ZERO CONTENT and just never logged back in.
I did all that because I discovered that if you "Cancelled" your account that they could/would ressurect you without your consent and restore whatever data they managed to archive from your account.
Fuck FakeBook and $uckerBerg.

I’d just like to thank mv both for being his own, unique self and for his selflessness and heroic efforts at the thankless job of running the best public forum ever. It’s just too bad we’ll never be able to go back and revist for historical reasons but I understand his reason of preventing all the doxxing cunts out there now of having at it. Anyway, thank you mv for making all that freedom and good times possible for us over the last decade or so. I wish you well in the post-Bellgab phase of your life. And who knows? Maybe one day when we’re all done feeling defeated we may actually all get together again down the road and rock the world the way we did in 2016. There’s still an evil empire to be defeted. ;)

I vaguely recall reading some post over there where you were yelling at ItOver about something. I will have to go back and actually read what was written. I typically use the skim/scan/read approach when there is a lot of material to parse.
I can say that particular post stood out in that you didn't seem to have the gladhand backslap nicety feelz going on with it. Not to say a "breath of fresh air," {perhaps something a bit smellY? -HA!} but it did have a sense of "realness" while this bonhomie of the Return Of BellGab does seem to have a bit of High School Reunion fakery about it...
I shall pontifipate moar: I have always noted a bit of clique-ish-ness at BellGab, I do not think it is intentional: I think it is more a reflection of how vastly different and regional the United States are.
There is a sort of West Coast faction, which makes sense as they have a similar use of language and way of thinking that is different from the rest of the country. I find them to have an attitude of false superiority, sort of like the Rude American Tourist when abroad: they like to come to the MidWest or South and tell us how backward and quaint we are. Perhaps that is being a bit mean? I probably learned that from a West Coastie! HAH! There is a tendency to ignore folks from other regions, I think this comes from a fundamental inability to understand people outside of their culture/group, in short there is a cultural lack of actual empathic ability there. They may recognize this and say things that might lead you to believe there is some empathy there, but it is mainly a surface-gloss covering the "chocolatey nougat" inside them. HA! I of course generalize, hear? Not all West Coasties are dicks, and probably most of the BellGabbers from that region are likely decent folk: they were just raised in the wrong village as it were.
There is the Midwest/Southern faction: although they are distinct from each other I will lump them into one category. I happen to have a foot in each camp due to long family history on the continent ranging from French Canadia down to the bayous (and many points between). I am most certainly NOT representative of the Midwest/South faction: I am a bit odd and my brethren have not failed to note this & inform me of the fact throughout my life! I don't mind it so much anymore, it is clearly an artifact of my being so far on the right of the Bell Curve, my god-like intellect allows me to forgive them of this. I digress. I have over the years found that there is a Kung Fu mentality with the Midwestern/Southern folks, or the Grey Man (https://survivallife.com/gray-man/) mentality: there is frequently more than meets the eye with us.
I think Teddy Roosevelt (an actual East Coaster) summed it up with his "Speak softly & Big stick" thing; although that seems to indicate a proclivity for the physical rather than the intellect. Which naturally leads me to the East Coast Faction, I think this emphasis on brute force is an artifact of their habit of living in close packed cities. Consider them to be in the feed-lot that immediately precedes the slaughterhouse, while Midwesterners/Southerners are allowed to range a bit more freely in pasturage and therefore can think about things without being jostled & disturbed by nearby mindless meat-bags. I digress again. I nominally include the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes folks in this one: From Illinois east to Ohio, basically the Ohio river valley folk (but not Kentuckians as they should be Southern). The Ohioians are the square peg we try to fit into the East Coast round hole, you see.
Then there are the OCONUS people, you are among them. This is entirely unfair to categorize y'all into one giant group, it is a reflection of my innate American centrism and also an oversimplification: to my knowledge YOU are the sole member of the South African faction. I think it takes more than one person to make up a faction, so I lump you into the group of people that speak some weird version of the 'Murican language: the Ozzie/Kiwis, the Anglishers, the Paki/Indians(dot-not-feather) & Asiatics that have Engrish As A Second Language. It is really difficult to make a generalization about this OCONUS group other than they are, in fact, Outside the Continental United States.
Basically, the point I am trying to make hear is: with all these disparate groups happily mashing keys on the board and posting there is bound to be a sense of cliquishness. I do not think it is a conscious thing, even though we all share the English language there is a sort of cultural dialectalism at play that at a deeper level prevents understanding between the groups. The way Midwesterners use language to communicate complexity is completely different from the way a West Coastie would (I frequently find myself wondering if West Coasties are capable of complex thought?), Nautical Shore!

The look is a minor aesthetical quibble, I have bigger issues with the text editor for creating posts.
The SMF 2.1.2 version is quite a departure from what I am used to with whatever version this is.
The hard-coding using brackets is still functional, but I still haven't quite got a handle on the "quote" feature/bug: If you don't put a few carriage returns in place before you quote another user, you end up writing your reply within the quoted text.
I think in the past few days or so a setting was altered, because it doesn't seem to do that anymore.
I also wish the [size=xyz] : [/size] text-size function was active, more so now that "Fruitcake" is actively spamming over there. It is nice to reduce his "wall-of-text" gibberish with a "size=1" bracket when he types something at me and I wish to reply and make references to his obvious meth addiction is obvious disability.

How do you guys and girls feel about BellGab pulling the rug out from under y'all, and turning the site into nothing more than an "archive" site overnight?
What would you imagine the reason was for the "new" BellGab closing its doors to the public, and turning away its user base?
Do you think the general public having their posting privileges revoked altogether was driven by the low engagement the site was getting?
Why did BellGab's supposed relaunch feel so hollow? Was it because whoever it was that "took it over" had little-to-no grasp of the forum software?
Were the stalwarts put off by the new "look and feel" of the site? Who made the decision to eliminate the concept of the top right quotes, and why?
I think it was quite foolish to announce BellGab's "return" when what we really got was a CLEAR imitation of what came before.
In my opinion it'd have been better to just have simply let sleeping dogs lie, and kept BellGab offline.

I think it more likely that the forum was twinned and we all of us here are simply not allowed to see that other side of Midnight. On top of that, anyone who is paying attention must be on tenterhooks to find out what's next: there are only about a million ways this thing could go down. Unfortunately, as I age, I've had more responsibilities added to the list. In short, I haven't had much free time. I've also been battling with my health, so thats taken priority. When I feel like its hard to even get out of bed, posting on the forum is something that feels impossible. While I'd like to check in here more, I'd never force it if its not coming naturally. I wish there were a more exciting excuse. I also like seeing you guys enjoy yourselves. That brings me joy. Do you really need me cramping your style? I'm the admin. And you'd be surprised how differently I get treated behind-the-scenes because of it. It kinda ruins the mystery.
