Apparently, another potential candidate for the job is
The Queen Of Canada. While I appreciate the "cut of her jib"; I am unsure about her qualifications and/or motivations. Definitely
Nautical Shore about that one.
That said, I believe the best path forward for Canada at this point is to follow the MAPA plan and assimilate them as the 51st State of the United States of America. I assure everyone this particular item will be at the top of "The List" it is assigned to.
I realize that there is some concern about how this might affect the current balance of power in Congress; the addition of 2 new Senators and 1 more seat in the House of Representatives would bring the total House seats up from 435 to 436. Probably, the
re-alignment of the House seats will be the primary concern. I think it would be wise to add two more seats to the current 435 total bringing it up to 437 so that there will be an odd number which will preclude the possibility of a dead-lock (assuming an odd number of House votes are not held in abstention on any particular issue).
By my math, the current 331.5 million US citizens get one House seat per ~0.75 million of State population. The addition of
half a million1 new
CanadianUS citizens to the the current total brings us to 332 million US citizens divided amongst the new 437 total house seats, which is still right about ~0.75 million per House seat. This assumes that Canada is admitted to the United States as a
single contiguous state, of course.
Alternatively, the
10 Canadian provinces2 could be admitted to the US as individual states in their own right. This I think is a better plan, as it would involve adding 10 new Senators and 10-20 new House Seats, and due to the math; it would mean that the addition of the <500,000 new
CanadianUS citizens still brings the total US population to 332 million
but that number is divided by at most 455 House seats which would mean ~0.73 million people per House seat.
I think this second option is superior as it would actually increase representation per capita in the House, and also allows for better redistricting in the subsequent process that would require. This, of course, would allow my Administration3 to assist in making sure these new districts are properly in line with MAPA principles and goals.
