It's almost like your swamp creatures looked at what was happening north of the boarder and realized that they are losing ground in terms of being able to censor and propagandize. We have several bills working their way through parliament that will allow them to force companies to suppress "disinformation" and regulate free speech- and they are paying hundreds of millions to the big news stations every year (and newspapers.)
As for 1984- yesterday Dr. Hinshaw's government lawyer had a judge rule against her when she claimed that she could not answer his questions about covid lockdowns and public health measures. She claimed "cabinet privilege". The argument was that if she were disclose discussions that had taken place behind closed doors, democracy would suffer because people might not feel free speak openly to a small, closed room knowing that what they said would never reach the public.
Talk about a 1984 argument. Basically, they said that democracy can not work if there is openness and transparency on the biggest and most far reaching decisions that an elected official makes.
