I love this new set of Mendelssohn's symphonies!  The first, in particular, has never sounded better.  North German Radio Orchestra with HIP violinist Andrew Manze, who is pursuing a conducting career, bringing the true gospel of HIP to stodgy old second- and third-tier orchestras, much like Reinhard Goebel.  Manze's disc of Roman's Drottningholmsmusiken with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra is also wonderful.

I dedicate the following three to RealCoolDaddio (in Mammarian, where soft ev' the douché may be...)

RCD:  do note that these are to compare and contrast U2/REM with a more musically modern* model that may or may not be relevant.
