I am having trouble discovering what the icons in the red circle are all about in this:

I assume the "paperclip" indicates that there is an attachment contained somewhere in the thread, but the "thumbs up," "thumbs down," "light bulb" and various emoticons are a bit vague.  Most threads don't have those symbols, they just have "pieces of paper" or something.  Is this some sort of SMF code, and why isn't it in the legend box?

Noticed it the other day, and I found every instance of the "odd" ones here on Azzgab and pastiched them together into that wonderful image.

Other than JaxTar appears to have the lion's share of them, I cannot make heads nor tails of what metric is at work (if any) for the assignment of these icons to any particular thread.

Axing for a fiend.

TIA

Uh well, Pate.  When one posts a new topic, one gets the option to post an emoticon to highlight your new topic.  Look beneath the bar where you write in your subject title.  It will read MESSAGE ICON There is a down arrow "v" next to it in the bar which says Standard.  Click on the "v" and it gives you several choices of emoticons to bring attention to your new thread.
You can do this, Pate.  I have faith in you. ;)

I will continue to not use this feature/bug.  It is as I suspected;  arbitrary, meaningless and pointless.  The JaxTar correlation seemed indicative of this.  I will continue to use this as a indicator that it is likely that a thread with any such icon will ultimately be uninteresting.

I am happy that there are more options of emoticon placement for folks that have a dis- or in-ability to use words to express thoughts and emotion.  It would be unAmerican to deny banal people the right to communicate banality whether in a written or graphical format.

How exciting it is to learn that the scope of stupid in the world is somewhat larger than I knew.  I have long suspected it, but now have even more clinical proof!  I must make an entry in my journal to note this personal discovery.

Thank you SisStar!

In a moment of passion I sent a coq-pic to a certain member...

Can I delete the massage in quest?

2 L8, Sally Mae.

Sed pique has already been rushed on off to the printers, and is now hanging, framed, above the fireplace in the drawing room.

& word on the street is, Cheffy even has it scheduled for a screening-- surrounded by neon arrows ... in Times Square!

🤷

Shortical naw.

Laser, would you prefer that I reactivate PMs?

I personally don't feel as if there's a need for them myself, but if yourself and others feel they are useful, I can bring them back (no sweat).

Occasionally useful, but I didn't see the need to eliminate the feature.
