I never heard of a rope seal (not a boomer) but it does look like some kind of woven fabric steampunk shit. I have done the normal rubber type rear mains that have the piece of metal rod in them you tap out with a hammer after loosening the main caps. That shit aint fun but that rope seal looks like it has the wire rod in it to drive it out as well.
