Hey Roz, is your Team in a pennant race this year?

https://www.mlb.com/standings

Mine isn't, but they are hosting a few more home games that could provide them with the "Playoff Denier" role...

The St. Louis *spit* Cardinals, while doing slightly better in the standings are also host to a few home games of note.

The rest of the Royals regular season home games left are:
https://www.mlb.com/royals/schedule/2021-09 & https://www.mlb.com/royals/schedule/2021-10

Cleveland "Indians" (2x series)
Chicago "White Sox"
Oakland "Athletics"
Seattle "Mariners"
Minnesota "Twinkies"

... and the Cardinals *spit* have home games against:
https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/schedule/2021-09 & https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/schedule/2021-10

Los Angeles "Dodgers"
Cincinnati "Reds"
San Diego "Padres"
Milwaukee "Brewers"
Chicago "Cubs"

...before the end of the season.

I think the Royals still have some sub-par "Thank You for your Service" seats, and I imagine the Cardinals *spit* do as well.  I could probably get you in on that deal if we pretend to be married or something.  That might result in an appearance on the infamous "Kiss Cam" thing that I know they do at Royals games, which would be awkward...

My instructors at school don't seem to care all that much about class attendance, mainly due to conducting class over the past 18 months via Zoom meetings.  They both have online options that may be utilized in lieu of in-person attendance, and don't really seem to care what the reason is.  Both classes mainly rely on tests, and even those tests can be taken online if given enough advance notice.  I think they enjoyed the ease of "online classes" as much as I did and wish to get back to that.

I could easily purchase a pair of tickets for the Royals game, and might even be able to score some sweet "Free Seats" from my local contacts (no promises).  The Cardinals *spit*, might take a bit of logistical legerdemain to arrange (hell, I might have enough Proud Missourian pull to score some sweet "Free Seats" there:  a long shot on that though), but it is certainly feasible.

Either option is a "Day Trip" for me...

I remain, Nautical Shore.

Yours,

Hey Roz, what is the story behind your newest avatar photo?

I cannot read the apparent fine print underneath which I bet identifies the work in question.

The apparent illumination from above on the lady seems evocative of some sort of spiritual thing.  Virgin Mary came to mind, but I don't think Jesus' mom would wear a harlot's red dress.  Hard to tell if she is sad, tired, both or something else.

She is kinda hawt in that Morticia Addams/Lily Munster/Elvira way.

Hi Roz,
I took the liberty of running your handle through the artflow.ai artifical intelligence generator.  Seems like you might have some sort of skin condition. You doing okay?

Roz,

I do not actually have a question for you, I just wanted to type the words:

"Hey, Roz..."

that was fun.  Now that I think of it, maybe I do have a question for you:  "... are you good at math?"

As part of my ongoing "Backyard Greenhouse" design project, I have stumbled upon what is known as The Equation of Thyme[sp].  Which, among other things, can be used to determine the Sun's apparent position in the sky at any given moment in thyme throughout the year.  I think it tells you the Right ascension (East/West angle on the horizon) & Azimuth (angle up from the horizon) for any particular time/date of the year.  It also corrects for your latitude (which affects the sun's position at any given time), timezone AND will also correct for longitude/timezone errors due to your position being at one of the extreme edges of any given timezone.

I think it is pretty neat, but for the purposes I wish to use it I do not need all the "extra" variables that will correct for Apparent vs. Greenwich Mean Time &c.  I just need to find out the angle of the sun throughout the solar day from the Winter Solstice to the Summer Solstice at my latitude (~39N°), or possibly for the entire year.

With that information in hand, I believe I can then construct an egg-shaped geodesic dome for the roof of my "Backyard Greenhouse" that will maximize solar insolation into the greenhouse for my specific latitude.  The idea being that this will minimize my greenhouse heating costs in the winter months and hopefully enable me to keep my potted Palm Trees, Citrus Trees and other tropical plants alive over the winter without dragging them into the house and up to the second and third floors and back outside every year.  Which is a huge pain in the butt, and sometimes back.

Plus I think it would look really cool and also might be a neat gimmick for my insane plan to turn the property into a little cafe/restaurant.  I could claim that I grow my own ingredients year-round!

Anyway, if you are good at math & calculus and such things and enjoy that sort of thing you could figure that out for me one day when you are bored and have nothing better to do.  No pressure or anything, I can probably figure it out on my own but since having the idea a few months back I have not had the thyme to sit down and simplify the Equation of Thyme to the point where I can just "plug & chug" in the variables to find the optimal angles for my geodesic greenhouse panes.

I bet someone has already done the work for me (in a way) in the solar power industry to keep the solar panels pointed at the sun for maximum efficiency throughout the day.  I intend to build a static structure, not some Rube Goldberg-type contraption that has the dome somehow track and follow the movement of the sun:  that sounds overly complicated.

I like the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) principle of design.

Cheers,

Dear Azzra,

Will Pate and Roswells ever actually date, get married, or is it all tongue and cheek?

Hanz looks better, although his ears don't stand up like that guy's.  Hanz Too has the floppy Rhodesian Ridgeback ears unless he's pointing at something he is thinking about chasing.

Hey Roz, ankle-biter dog or Big Dawg?

Hey Roz, what sort of costume (if any) are you planning for Halloween this year?

I personally haven't really even considered a costume until today.  It occurred to me that there is a remote possibility that we might end up in New Orleans on or around Halloween in search of Satsuma oranges this year.  The feline/canine dynamic immediately sprang into my mind as a possible pairing.

Imagining that we are both less fugly than those two fine people pictured above, I thought that might be a possibility.  Mongo Lloyd would be the closest canine companion I could provide for the Dorothy costume, or a suitable stuffed plushy could be crammed into her basket.

Honestly, I do not normally "dress up" for Halloween or anything else:  so this is really not my bailiwick.  For your pleasure I would certainly don some sort of silly costume and parade around New Orleans on All's Hallowed Eve.  Hopefully, you will not require me to dress up as Dorothy w/ Toto instead of the Cowardly Lion as that would be weird and take some serious negotiation to achieve.

It is something to think about, as the Satsuma harvest season is probably in the early phases as I type this.  I have not yet received any indication whatsoever that the recent hurricane has adversely affected that harvest, btw.

The only holiday I have ever celebrated in New Orleans happens to be St. Patrick's Day, which was quite laid back.  I don't recall there even being a parade, but there were a few Irish pubs that I visited and the crowds were sparse at that time (late 90s/early 2000s??).  I will predict that Halloween in New Orleans is somewhere between Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's Day in celebratory severity.  Doubtless it will be nowhere near the Halloween levels to be found in Key West, Florida's Fantasy Fest...

Cheers,

Hey Roz, would you mind conducting a Welfare Check on our mutual fiend K_Dubb through whatever "back channels" you might have available?

The AzzGab membership is both perplexed and somewhat concerned.  For my part, I am on the cusp of attempting some sort of baking project for the "BellGab Bakeshoppe" thread.  If your cat(s) have any tracking skills similar to bloodhounds they might be useful in tracking him down:  you might consider them as a search asset.

We are approaching the point of desperation or I would not presume to ask such a favor of you, but if you can find the thyme we would all breathe a bit easier:  Some of us are becoming alarmed, apparently!

Hey Roz, would you like to go see the new Dune movie with me?

It opens in theaters tomorrow (21OCT2020), I haven't checked the local listings yet but I hope it is at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema:

Pretty cool place, I believe when Star Wars (Episode IV) & Empire Strikes Back (Episode V) were released* that was the very same theater where I saw both.  As I recall, the bit in Episode IV when the *smashcut* to the gibbering Tusken Raider happened:  It scared the freaking bejezus out of my 4-year-old-self and my older brother had to take me out to the lobby to get me to stop crying.  He was pissed;  gave me the "Man Speech" and said if I couldn't grow an adult pair he would no longer take me to see movies.  HA!  The scene in its original glory:

Anyway, I promise to try not to cry during Dune so you won't have to take me out to the lobby until I can settle down.  Fair warning:  if it is really awesome I might cry tears of joy (which will probably be silent) and if it sucks the is a very scant possibility of rage-tears (probably not, although if it sucks as bad as Oliver Stone's JFK I will exit and demand a refund or ticket to anther movie <--this has only happened once in my lifetime)

Anyway, the Alamo is right on the Downtown "free trolley" line, as is Union Station where the Amtrak lines have a stop.

It's not New Orleans (no satsumas this year anyway) but if you are looking for an excuse to get out of town...

*actually the '79 re-release of Star Wars (Episode IV)

This seems like a fine time to kickstart the superspreading into overdrive. Consider me, penciled in.

Seeing as though she stood you up, how about you put that money you were gonna spend on 2 movie tickets to good use and subscribe to my podcast?

Unless, of course, you were gonna go dutch, in which case, 5 bucks is just too much forget it.
