Why not? This way when the next wave hits they can remind us how bad the unvaxxed are and remind us that our lack of freedom is due to their selfishness.
I don't think we are ever going back to that, at least in this country, even were the virus to come back anew, full-strength, like it did last year. Because we have comparatively weak national leadership, where governors, mayors, and even local sheriffs (as happened just one county north of Seattle, you may recall) can basically thumb their noses at enforcement (remember sanctuary cities) each jurisdiction has effectively imposed what level of control it demands/can tolerate politically, and that's entirely appropriate. The illusion I think most of you operate under is that someone is actually in charge.
I am seeing some retrospective reevaluations of lockdown policies from some surprising quarters, for example
https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/coronavirus-covid19/22456544/covid-19-mask-mandates-lockdown-debate-evidenceand this state has recently adjusted its website to show vaccination rates by county (which of course tie closely with who they voted for), we should be able to clearly see what difference vaccinations make, which is of course what people like me are hoovering to watch the hammer drop on all you scofflaws. If the red counties which have basically ignored everything don't flare up this fall, people in government will begin to ask reasonable questions, and the people demanding that government do something will have to argue that those things actually work.
