I totally remember Crumb. I considered his work repulsive, yet telling of what would eventually come to be in the 'SHOCK-NOW.' In Robert's defense, I remember he also produced some funny shit. I'll do a search. I hope I can find it. 
You may be thinking of R. Crumb ie. Robert Crumb.
His work, however repulsive - or captivating - as one may find it,
