Peterson is a word salad BS specialist, a humbug, and a pussy. He put out this book giving life advice to young people, then it turned out he got hooked on painkillers. He wasn't man enough to go through withdrawal so he had himself put into a coma and had health complications as a result. Another one of these dodgy characters that the right see as some sort of hero. He isn't, he's a useless cunt.

I would only hope you judge yourself as harshly as you do others!

He deserves it. I'm too old to be taken in by his shtick. There are good reasons to be wary of people who dispense advice like candy; they're usually hiding something, a big emotional void in their personally that they compensate for by lecturing others. The really sick thing is that he has lots of impressionable young people who fall for it; they get hooked by the trivial obvious stuff and then go on to believe his wilder BS. It's cultish behaviour.

Don't worry, the irony is not lost on me. I have people in my life that do the same thing: advice, advice, advice-- with none of their own wins.

Jordan Peterson is in the business of selling books. And of making appearances on shows to plug those books. He's a fucking sellout.

When all one can offer is unspecified rage and ad hominem attacks lost to the dark side are they and literally lost the argument they have.

At least he is not fat.

Obviously he is a very bad influence on young men (in particular.) Offering advice such as "have a goal and work towards it" is abhorrent advice. What advice that he gives do you find particularly objectionable / harmful to his cult followers?

I think I will quote myself to make a point and demonstrate that I am not holding you to a higher standard than I would anybody else...

I read that. And it was one medical expert (others disagreed.) I think he lost me when he said carbon monoxide contributed and under cross examination admitted that he didn't even know if the car was running. Very shoddy. If I were on a jury, I don't know how much weight I would give his opinion vs. the others.

With the above in mind, I will simply point out that Peterson developed a dependence on antidepressants, not pain killers...

It depends what the goal is. A tiny section of the population really has something to offer and being goal-oriented can help achieve that. Most don't, though, and they'd be much happier focusing on what makes them happy and content. I bet Peterson is a Thatcher fan. That old cow couldn't tolerate anyone who didn't have the soul of a narrow-minded Victorian shopkeeper. Peterson is just saying 'you'd all be better off if you were more like me.' Well, that's bullshit.

A prime example of this you are?!

Perhaps. His 12 rules (previous book) were:

1 Stand up straight with your shoulders back.
2 Treat yourself like you are someone you are responsible for helping.
3 Make friends with people who want the best for you.
4 Compare yourself with who you were yesterday, not with who someone else is today.
5 Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them.
6 Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world.
7 Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient).
8 Tell the truth — or, at least, don’t lie.
9 Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t.
10 Be precise in your speech.
11 Do not bother children when they are skate-boarding.
12 Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street.

Now, I can see where you might prefer to change rule 12 to read "kick a cat when you encounter one on the street." And I assume that rule 8 is out the window for anybody on this forum (and I would say the evidence is strongly against 3 applying to members as well.)

I'm just not sure that I see where the great harm is if people actually made an attempt to follow those rules (or most of his advice.)

*Hell, Jackstar would kill for rule 10 to be applied across society...

You're too kind. Actually, no, you're just stating what we all know.

1. Yeah, great advice if you were in a trench in WW1. Cunt.
 6. Cunt should take his own advice. Bloody windbag.
5. Kids are always going to upset their parents. It's part of life. You don't have the right to treat them like pets.
7. 'Meaningful' is a content-free , waffly word. Getting hooked on pills was pursuing expediency.
8. OK, so tell the Nazis Ann Frank is hiding upstairs. Lying is fine, it's situational. That tosser doesn't understand that.

Basically it's shit on stilts.
