I still have hope!  So far it is just experts saying what they will always say, not politically accountable people.  When was the last time an expert advised anything but caution?  I thought you might get a kick out of it.  If they go back on what the governor said, there will be hell to pay.  Too many people are too happy.

That is depressing.  The whole premise of this thing was hospital capacity and once all the old folks in real danger who want one get the vaccine that should be the only consideration.  I think with your vaccination supply problems you guys are a month or two behind us, I am hoping to show you evidence that there's light at the end of the tunnel, despite our wavering nannies.

I think the only way this goes back to lockdowns here is if a variant shows up that starts killing off, not just making sick, vaccinated old folks again 🤞

You just hit on the major problem. Our elected officials have abdicated responsibility and are instead starting to defer to the provinces top doctor.I think it will fail. People like me (who might otherwise support the premiere) do not believe that a leader abdicates responsibility and people who already don't like him talk as though he personally choked the life out of every last covid victim.

I hope you are right, and that it can go to normal. But right now, we are being told that our numbers are at record levels (not deaths). The messaging has changed from "flatten the curve" to "crush the spike." Today my medical overlords informed me that we are in a worse position than ANY TIME since the start of Covid.

*Last weekend, the provincial health authority actually used the emergency broadcast alert system to tell us all to follow the rules and that we were all going to die. They are trying to ramp up the fear...

You have me curious, looking at the Alberta govt's site your cases have spiked centered on last week, not enough time for deaths to catch up but the spike is as high as it's been.  And ICU capacity is 95% (can't quite tell) with 80% coofers.  I think we'd be slamming the brakes on, too, in those circumstances.  It looks pretty grim.

With vaccinations we saw cases spike during our recent "fourth wave" (only about half as high as at the winter) but deaths did not follow and hospitalizations were actually less-old folks like 65 since the vaccination rates for the ancient are something like 85-90% and they were underrepresented in the ICU, the pokies do seem to do what they're supposed to do for the people who need them most.

I am not sure I like the word "adultifying" but I agree with the sentiment, this is the most sensible take on the CDC and masks I have read, from a "former WHO senior pandemic influenza comms advisor" whatever that is sheesh

“We’re not all in this together anymore”:
CDC’s unspoken adultifying message
re masks and social distancing

Quote
Now, U.S. adults are divided into two cohorts: the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. The unvaccinated are a tiny threat to the vaccinated. The vaccinated are a tiny threat to the unvaccinated. The unvaccinated significantly threaten only each other. We’re not all in this together anymore.

The unspoken thing in her whole piece is that the vaxxed and the coofers can safely leave each other alone.  But of course we will not hahaha

150 cases in ICU. Province wide. Population... 4.5 million. At least 15 major hospitals. They put up a "covid tent" at the Laugheed in Calgary last winter. A full size tent that takes up the entire parking lot. And they are running out of room?

I'm not wanting a ton of hospitalizations. But this cannot be an emergency that overwhelms our system after a year and a half of preparation. And if it is, we need to rethink what the fuck we are doing pouring billions into a system so fragile that it cannot handle the equivalent of a few bus loads of ICU patients spread throughout the entire province.

*Can you imagine Alberta in an actual crisis or in a war, with actual bombs. Hell, the Palestinian hospital system appears to be better run at this point.

Also your vaxx rate is 42% one dose/7% fully vaxxed, ours is 72%/56%, yeah you are a month or two behind and with your govt (and the Brits, too, interestingly) saying to delay the second dose your fully-vaxxed % will probably lag.

And the idea that "it is as bad as it ever was" seems to be true:

First of all, punk is HAWT.  I love the sneer, the swagger, the tendency to stick sharp things through your nipples 👀

I think the nipple thing (and the high fashion) were after my time. On the covid related note, I'm done. I'm out. I pretended for months that I care and I can't anymore. 55 planes in two weeks landing in Alberta carrying a covid passenger. Thousands exposed. That is fine because it is big money. My going out for a beer? Nope. Fuck it.

1 in 3 planes that landed in Canada carrying Covid landed in Alberta. A province with 10% of the Canadian population. I'm not complaining. I would sooner have a economy than safety. But the politicians need to stop the BS hypocrisy.

Anyhow, to go back to punk- I pulled out a few old records including Elton Motello (sort of punk?) When "jet boy jet girl" came on I laughed at what was once upon a time "offensive." Just the mention of homosexual was enough to drive some people over the edge once upon a time. That said, the lyrics were pretty explicit.

I do think that the punk scene was more accepting of just about anybody than just about any other group. At least back in the day. From what I can tell, most of it has devolved into a fashion statement now. Anyhow, the original Jet boy jet girl. Apparently recorded in the late 70's.

Vaxx Rates Conceal Proof of Stolen Election!!!!

There are also some intriguing anomalies in the data. Pennsylvania, a swing state that voted for Biden last year, has a vaccination rate of 55 percent with at least one shot, exceeding the national average of 47 percent.

Meanwhile, two other states that voted for Biden — Georgia and Arizona — are at 37 percent and 44 percent, respectively.

Doug Heye, a Republican strategist, said those figures could align with the view that the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia were more of an “anomaly.”

“I still view Georgia as a Republican state,” he said.

This is really getting silly.

Haha that is pretty shocking for the 70s!  I like how they booked a room (at the Ritz!) for the whole sordid experience -- that was when we had class  :(

Not good, they are fantasizing about containment again instead of just management.  These are the same idiots who imagined battalions of contact tracers and smartphone apps would appear if they just waved their arms.

They are running out of people to protect.  Now it is the young who can't be vaccinated yet and the immunocompromised and the people who really would get vaccinated but they have some obscure quibble -- latex-allergic and lactose-intolerant I suppose.  Just one more month, to protect the children!  Soon we vaxxed will be told we must keep our masks on to protect Republicans and that will be the end of that  ;D

Then there should be no harm in looking at "the data" and putting this "kook conspiracy theory" to bed?  I note that it is very difficult to prove a negative, so good luck with that.  Anyhow, after "they" are done proving that it was a totally legit election;  C'mon, man!  "They" can go on to find that final and definitive proof that God exists...

I somehow doubt that either will happen.

I would not mind an investigation, either, if there were such a thing as an honest man in this country any more to conduct one.  I think we all remember that fateful moment on the election-night gabcast where poor MV's glasses began to fog and he decided to go to bed.  I felt so bad for him -- I wanted to give him a Trump cookie!  I believe bellgab's fate was sealed then and there.
